Last night I went to cotillion :) It was really fun! We got to sit with whoever we wanted unlike the last times when it was all awkward because we barley knew each other, you just kinda looked around and heard the two lucky friends who got assigned to the same table. Then you start mouthing words and doing sign language across the room from your friend trying to communicate to them. That doesn't work out too good. So we continue the silence at the table. This time it wasn't as awkward since we were with our friends :)
When the people, or kids, or teens, whatever you would like to call them, walked in some of the instructors handed out cards with names on them. It was a white card, with your name scribbled on the top of it in black ink, and a number one, with a name, and then below that a number two with another name. Names I don't recognize. I realized those are the people I would be dancing with that night when I heard people obsessing over who their going to dance with and showing their note card.
The teacher yelled out telling the group of talking kids to line up from shortest to tallest. On one side, the guys lined up, and on the opposing side the girls lined up. The teachers interfered when we were off balance in our shortest to tallest. It was more of a short, tall, short, tall kind of line instead. But then the instructor found another way to line us up. It worked out better since we were pair with our first partner.
Once everything was in order we reviewed our first dance we learned, the fox trot. Then we had to practice the add ons to that, which were very complicated, until we got the hang of it of course. Then it was fun :) Next was the swing dance. We had to find our second round partners for this dance. I had no idea who my partner even looked like, so i started stradegizing :P I though to myself maybe I could go around asking random people if they were this guy.....that may take awhile. Then I saw a girl go up to the instructor asking who this guy was. How obvious. I could have thought to ask the teacher of course. So I went up to her and asked and she called out the name on my card. Then a very happy, jumpy, guy came out of the crowd. The teacher said in a rushed tone "Introduce yourselves, get aquainted." Then she went on helping the other girls find their waiting partners.
He introduced himself and I introduced myself, then we stood there awkwardly waiting. He had curly hair, and fair skin. His eyes were wide with excitement as he looked around. Finally the awkwardness ended for me while the teacher explained the next dance. We reviewed that dance, the swing dance, and then I was expecting the complicated add ons to this dance. It wasn't as complicated like the last dance, it was quite easy.
Once we finally got the hang of the dance and it looked pretty decent for two clumsy dancers, then I was harrassed with homeschool questions. It was alright at first, his curiostity didn't surprise me since he has never been around too many homeschoolers.
Once I was free of questions, I talked to my friends while I waited for my mom to pick me up. Overall it was a nice night :) It was pretty fun and I hope the next cotillion meeting will be even better since it will be the last one :(
